THE PRODUCT, EXPLAINED
A pelmet is a shaped covering fitted above a curtain or blind, often upholstered in a coordinating fabric. It creates a defined upper edge and can conceal the track or other fittings behind it. Unlike a soft gathered window valance, a pelmet usually has a more structured form.
A straight pelmet can emphasise the architecture of a window and work well in a simple contemporary scheme. A curved or more decorative shape changes the character of the room. Matching the curtain fabric creates continuity; a contrast fabric or border makes the upper line more of a feature.
Its depth and projection need to allow the treatment below to operate freely. A Roman blind requires room for its raised folds; layered curtains require clearance for the tracks and fabric. We will plan the pelmet around the complete arrangement so the proportions and practical clearances work together.
DESIGNED AROUND YOUR HOME
A straight upholstered box offers a clean outline; a shaped profile creates a more decorative effect.
A matching curtain fabric creates continuity, while a contrasting cloth makes the pelmet a separate feature.
The pelmet must accommodate the track, curtain heading and any blind or sheer behind it.
WHERE IT WORKS BEAUTIFULLY

An upholstered pelmet provides a defined top line and can conceal the curtain track. A straight shape suits a restrained room; a border or contrasting fabric can make it more decorative. The depth should relate to the window and the ceiling height.
A pelmet can connect the curtains to an upholstered headboard through colour or trim. It may also help screen the top of the window treatment, although the complete curtain and lining arrangement determines light control.
Allow enough room for the heading, track and any blind or sheer behind it. Cornices, opening windows and fitting access can influence the design. Confirm all layers together so the pelmet has the right projection and proportions.

PLANNING YOUR PROJECT
Size is one part of the picture. Your choice of fabric, the amount needed, pattern matching, construction, hardware and fitting requirements all contribute to the quotation. A more detailed finish or a motorised system can change the scope.

Depth depends on what sits underneath: the track, curtain heading, brackets and any blind or sheer. It also needs to look proportionate to the window. The full window treatment is considered together before the pelmet dimensions are confirmed.
