Bed Valances

A considered finish from top to floor.

A made-to-measure bed valance conceals the base and completes the proportions of a dressed bed. Choose a quiet straight finish or a more structured pleated detail.

THE PRODUCT, EXPLAINED

What is a bed valance?

A bed valance covers the visible sides of a bed base, creating a finished line between the bedding and the floor. It can soften an otherwise plain base or help connect the bed with a wider fabric scheme. The fitting arrangement depends on the bed and the valance construction.

A straight valance gives a simple outline. Pleated styles introduce more structure, including defined corner details, while gathered fabric creates a softer effect. The most suitable style depends on the room and whether you want the base to sit quietly or contribute a decorative detail.

The finished drop is particularly important: too short and the base remains visible; too long and the fabric may drag. We will discuss base measurements, the floor level and how the valance needs to work with storage or moving parts. The bedroom images illustrate the wider scheme rather than a specific valance construction.

DESIGNED AROUND YOUR HOME

Three decisions that shape the result.

01

Flat or gathered

A flat valance gives the base a clean, tailored face.

02

Drop & attachment

The base dimensions, mattress position and height above the floor establish the required fit.

03

Drawers & access

Tell us about drawers, an ottoman lifting base or any equipment beneath the bed.

WHERE IT WORKS BEAUTIFULLY

A considered finish, down to the floor

Bed valances

Divan beds

A valance conceals the bed base and gives the bedding a more complete outline. A flat tailored panel feels neat and architectural; pleats or a gathered style create a softer effect. Measure the actual base and drop rather than relying on the mattress size alone.

Guest bedrooms

Coordinating the valance with curtains or a small cushion can connect the room without adding another dominant pattern. A quiet woven fabric is a useful starting point where the duvet or bedspread already has visual detail.

Storage & practical access

Tell us about drawers, lifting bases and where the valance needs to sit. It should allow the bed to work as intended. The attachment, floor clearance and care requirements need checking before the making details are agreed.

YOUR OPTIONS

Tailor the base of the bed.

Choose the outline you want.

A flat valance gives the base a clean, tailored face. Pleats introduce controlled fullness at specific points, while a gathered design feels softer. The best choice depends on the bedspread above it, the character of the room and how much detail you want near the floor.

PLANNING YOUR PROJECT

What affects the price?

Size is one part of the picture. Your choice of fabric, the amount needed, pattern matching, construction, hardware and fitting requirements all contribute to the quotation. A more detailed finish or a motorised system can change the scope.

Share an approximate budget and the number of windows or pieces you are considering. We can help you understand the options and decide where to focus the investment. An initial estimate is a starting point; the final price follows the agreed measurements and specification.

A LITTLE GUIDANCE

Your questions, answered.

Can a valance work with a storage bed?

The panel and attachment arrangement needs to allow access to drawers or a lifting base. Share the bed details before the valance is specified. A standard uninterrupted panel may not be the most practical arrangement for every storage design.

Can you help me choose?

Yes. Tell us about the look you like and how you use the room. We can help narrow down fabrics, styles and practical requirements.

Do you cover my area?

We are based in Bracknell and cover Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and nearby areas, including Windsor, Eton, Maidenhead, Taplow, Burnham, Slough and Marlow. Send your postcode with your enquiry.
